Research Interns Join us for July!
This month, REVERSEACTION have been joined by two SHARE Research Interns, Faith-Lyn Hay (University of Leicester) and Lui Axcell-Sewell (University of Bath). The pair are with us for 4 weeks, contributing to the analysis of ceramics and metals from Colombia.
In week 1, Faith and Lui 3D-scanned a collection of replica piartal vessels crafted by Maestro Miguel de la Cruz in Ipiales, Colombia. By week 2 they were ready to join Kate and Rosie at the MAA Cambridge stores, 3D scanning two original archaeological piartal vessels from the northern Ecuador–southern Colombia region. Both Faith and Lui were also introduced to optical microscopy and sample preparation for SEM analysis.
For the rest of the month, the pair will be focusing on separate, individual research projects, which they will present to the wider SHARE cohort on August 1st. Faith will be undertaking geometric morphometric analysis of the 3D scanned ceramics, including vessels scanned during REVERSEACTION’s visit to Museo Madre Caridad Brader, Pasto. And Lui will be preparing polished blocks containing tiny fragments of gold-copper alloy objects from Quimbaya, for analysis with Keyence optical microscopy.
The pair have been a joy to host, and we look forward to seeing their presentations next week!
